NC leadership cheats IB residents on reservation issue | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 29: Even as Jammu based National Conference (NC) leaders have supported extension of reservation benefits to residents of International Border (IB), role played by party's members in the Lok Sabha has created a strong anger against border people of Jammu province. In the Lok Sabha when this Bill was moved on Friday, NC members opposed it and termed it an attack on the special status of J&K. But Jammu based NC leaders came forward in support of the Bill to befool people of Jammu region. Residents of border areas are asking their local NC leaders to clear their stand on this issue because technically NC has opposed reservation for IB people in the Lok Sabha. People living on IB from Kathua, Samba and Jammu will be benefitted from the Bill but NC members in the Parliament had opposed the move. It was long pending demand of the residents living on the IB to treat them like residents of Line of Control who are getting benefits of reservations. Instead of supporting this long pending demand, NC members in the Lok Sabha opposed it and this action has opposed anti-Jammu attitude of NC members. On Friday Lok Sabha had passed Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2019 which is aimed at providing reservation in educational institutions and government jobs to the people living within 10 km of the IB in the Jammu region, just like those living on the Line of Control (LoC). Earlier, the move to give reservation benefits to the IB dwellers was made in 2017, but the same was sabotaged by the previous coalition government headed by Mehbooba Mufti in which the BJP was equal partner. Residents of 70 villages of Kathua, 133 villages of Samba and 133 villages of Jammu districts will be benefited from this Bill as they will get reservation benefits. From Paharpur of Kathua to Chicken Neck to the Pargwal sector of Jammu district, the 198-km IB with Pakistan has witnessed bloodshed and destruction for long. But during the past one decade, the intensity of shelling and firing has increased manifold due to the hostile relations between the two countries. |
