Amit Shah's snub to Kashmir centric politicians leaves them guessing | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 29: Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, not meeting any Kashmir centric leaders during his maiden official visit to the Valley earlier this week has left the mainstream politicians high and dry. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "This for the first time in the recent past that a union minister has ignored the Kashmir centric leaders and has not given any importance to them. It's a clear message to them that Centre can handle Jammu and Kashmir without the leaders, who sail in two boats and leave no opportunity to appease the separatists and the people sitting across the Line of Control." He said that "during the past three decades Kashmir centric leaders have been given undue importance. These leaders despite enjoying all the privileges provided by New Delhi used to talk in a language of separatists, for them national interests have never been a priority." A Kashmir watcher said that the mainstream politicians in Kashmir were waiting for the Home Minister's invitation. "Prior to Amit Shah's Kashmir visit politicians had advised him to offer dialogue to the separatists. By not meeting any of the Kashmir centric leaders Shah has driven home a point that mainstream politicians don't matter and country's sovereignty and integrity are supreme," he added. Another analyst said, "When Peoples Democratic Party was sharing power with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP leaders used to compel the union ministers to remain soft and invite separatist for talks. But it seems that the BJP leaders have realized that Kashmir centric politicians are just interested in power and to remain relevant they wanted to keep the pot boiling by every time stating that Kashmir is an issue and it needs to be resolved." He said, "The same Kashmiri leaders who were soft towards separatists during their tenure are these days looking for their address and are waiting for an opportunity to restore communication channels with the Centre, which always went out of way to help them to rule the state." A politician wishing not to be named said, "New Delhi during the past three decades went out of way to help the Kashmiri leaders but these leaders instead of restoring peace just kept on inventing new ideas to tell people sitting in the national capital that Kashmir is burning and flames can't be doused. These leaders as rulers refrained from taking any action against the Pakistan stooges and separatists, who are responsible for the present mess in Kashmir. Had Kashmiri leaders acted against the handful of separatists and their supporters there would have been no conflict in J&K today. Centre by acting tough against the separatists and their supporters has proved that 90% people in Kashmir want to live a peaceful life." |
