Bank defaulter Dy Mayor of SMC, owes millions to SDA | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 29: Deputy Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Sheikh Imran who is a defaulter for crores of rupees to the J&K Bank, also owes over Rs 80 lakhs to the Srinagar Development Authority. Officials said Imran had "procured" space for office at the Sangarmal Shopping Complex in Srinagar around eight years ago but that he has not completed the lease agreement as a portion of the payment is pending. The said person runs his private office from the Sangarmal Complex where the Income Tax department had conducted raids sometime back. Officials said Imran "owns" prominent space for office in the second floor of the shopping plaza but has not cleared the dues including monthly rentals. Officials at the Srinagar Development Authority said several notices were served to him to clear the dues but he has failed to do the same. Officials said apart from the outstanding premium, he allegedly owes lakhs of rupees on the account of the monthly rent. Officials said out of the total premium of Rs 1,04,71,025, Imran has deposited Rs 51,27,989 and the outstanding premium is Rs 44,81,898. "But after the delay, the interest as on 31-05-2018 for Rs 35,35,781 was incorporated and the total outstanding premium against him is Rs 8,017,679," the officials said. It is pertinent to mention that Sheikh Imran is Deputy Mayor in the same city where the SDA also functions. "What message can a deputy mayor have for Srinagar when he is a defaulter in the same city where SDA functions," said a senior official. It is pertinent to mention that Imran is under scanner for not having paid back loan to the tune of around Rs one hundred crores to the J&K Bank. His residence and business premises have also been raided in connection with tax evasion. Despite repeated attempts Sheikh Imran couldn't be contacted for comments. |
