Narendra Modi at UNGA
10/3/2019 9:30:55 PM
Omkar Dattatray

Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi addressed 74th session of UNGA at Newyork. It was not the maiden address of Namo but Modi had addressed UNGA on 27th of September 2014. Now after five years Indian PM has addressed UNGA session on 27th September 2019. The address is a marvelous piece and a bold one. It is the blend of politics, economics, development and above all diplomacy. The address attracted the attention of the august audience at UNGA and those present heard him with utmost attention and with applause. Modi has addressed a second time in UN general assembly. With his address, pride and prestige of India has got a boost and India's viewpoint on terrorism has been highlighted by Modi in his scintillating speech. The world now accepts Modi as a big leader of substance and one who sets the world agenda. The fine thing is this that Modi talked about the welfare of whole world. In his September 2014 address has said and quoted vedic mantra3, ''Sravay Buvant Sukina, sravay Sant Niramaya, Sarvay Badrani Pashanto Maa Kaschat Duk Bag Bayat.'' The whole world waited with bleated breathe to hear him. This in itself is testimony of his popularity and acceptance of Modi at the international level. This time Modi's speech in UNGA is developmental in nature and he talked little of politics. He did not mention even once Kashmir and Pakistan in his speech. This shows that Pakistan is nowhere in the scheme of things of Modi and he has given no importance to Pakistan. Instead he talked of the various schemes and programs of his government launched during his rule and their importance for India and for the other developing countries who can use these with some modification in their countries. Modi talked of terrorism and of joint efforts of the world to fight it. Modi asked the world to stand united against terrorism. Modi described terrorism as the world's biggest challenge. He said that it is challenge not for any single country but for whole humanity. He exhorted world community to stand united against terrorism and fight it jointly. The crux of his address was development of India and the world as well and joint fight against terrorism. Exhorting the world community to raise against terrorism, he lamented the lack of unanimity among the countries on the issue of terrorism. He said that lack of consensus on this issue dents those very principles that are the basis for birth of UNO. He further said that world should unite to fight terrorism and said that world cannot remain a divided house but unite to fight the big challenge of terrorism. Modi in his speech talked about the challenges of climate change, banning of single use plastic in India, people friendly schemes launched and implemented in India for the benefits of the poor and downtrodden sections of the society. Today the message of India is accepted by the world. Modi talked of new India. In UN Modi magic forced the audience to hear him patiently. Due to Modi's diplomacy, Pakistan has been sidelined by the International community and even by the OIC and even the OIC does not lend support to Imran Khan. It is so good that Modi is now a world leader and the whole world is following him. Outside UNGA there were chants of 'Modi Modi'. This is the importance of Narendra Modi that Donald Trumph said that Modi is capable of defeating terrorism. He further said that unless India accepts he cannot mediate on Kashmir issue. One should see that India is a growing economy while Pakistan is a failed state and begging for money before the world community. Modi said that with trade our relations will also get a boost. Imran khan has already failed in UNSC and now he is bound to fail in UNGA. Modi said whole world is celebrating Mahatma Gandhi's 15th birth anniversary. World's largest democracy had elections and gave me the strongest mandate. Because of this mandate I am here. Ours is a developing country and we have embarked on sanitation campaign. 11 crore latrines for the people of India have been constructed. Big health insurance scheme for 50 crore people has been launched. Financial inclusion scheme has been started and we have opened 37 crore bank accounts. Digital identification program and bio metric identification has been ensured. He said we have saved 20 million dollar due to our fight against corruption. No single use of plastic program and water conservation has been launched in India and we will give water connection to lakhs of households in five years. 2 core households are being made TB free upto 2025. We have a culture which assimilates people from other faiths. We are of the faith and consider Shiva in Jiva. He said divided world is not needed. Now the worlds should have multilateralism and should give new direction to the world. We have sought peoples' cooperation in people's welfare schemes. We believe in Sub Ka Saath, Sab Ka Vikas and Sab Ka Vishwas. Our efforts are for the whole world. He quoted a Tamil poet who has said that all parts of the world are ours and we are in all. He concluded his address by quoting from Swami Vivekananda quote which reads as, "Harmony and people and not dissention" should be our motto and this is our message to the whole world today.
