JAMMU, Oct 3: J&K Regional Branch of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) today organized a Lecture on "Good Governance and United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals" which was delivered by the Advisor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai. Former DGP (retired), Dr. Ashok Bhan, presided over the function. Highlighting the relevance of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the Advisor specifically emphasized on the need for innovation, experimentation, collaboration and adopting a multi-dimensional integrated approach to achieve the SDGs. Addressing the gathering, Ganai said that governance models should adapt to the changing times and should ensure that no one is left behind in the process of development thereby providing distributive justice. While deliberating on each of the SDG, he stressed upon the principles of effectiveness, accountability, inclusiveness should be integrated into good governance. To achieve SDG, the Advisor flagged three issues - autonomy of institutions that make the governance accountable and corruption free; maintain the rule of law and ensure equal access to justice for all; and work towards social and communal harmony. Dr. Ashok Bhan in his presidential remarks while focusing on Goal 16 in particular i.e. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels, highlighted upon atmospherics required for making these goals achievable. Earlier, Former Member, JK PSC, K B Jandial, in his introductory address, briefed about the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals and its relevance in context of India. The lecture was attended by Former DGP, JK Police, Kuldeep Khoda, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chairman, IIPA J&K Regional Branch, Er. J B S Johar, Director Archives and Library, Muneer-ul-Islam, office bearers and executive committee. |
