IIMC Jammu celebrates Gandhi Jayanti

Jammu, Oct 3: In connection with 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi celebrations, a colourful programme based on the theme of philosophy of Gandhi ji was organized by the Jammu campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
Noted Gandhian and Social worker, Padamshree Dr S.P. Varma was the chief guest on the occasion where as the function was presided over by the Regional Director of IIMC Manohar Khajuria. Introducing Dr Varma, Khajuria highlighted his achievements to propagate the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi at national as well as international fora.
The students of the institution presented skit, poems, speeches and songs on various aspects of Mahatma Gandhi's life to mark this occasion. Gandhi favourite Bhajan presented by Himadri Dobhal "Vaishnav Jana To Tene Kahiye, Je Pida Parayi Jane Re…" enthralled the audience. Speech by Vijayta Sharma on Gandhi as a journalist, address by Prastav Mishra on life of Gandhi ji, poetry by Chandan Kumar and song by Ashmit Dyes marked the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Padamshree Dr Varma, threw light on the philosophy of Gandhi ji regarding non-violence, religious tolerance, mutual brotherhood and respect for one another. He said the world at large was facing lot of challenges at present times and there was need to follow the path of non-violence, love and respect for each other shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
Vote of thanks was presented by Assistant Professor Sanjit Khajuria.
