Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 6: With GC Murmu visiting Civil Secretariat in Srinagar and starting his office work within hours of assuming the office as the first Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory on October 31, the alleged deadwood and corrupt in the system have started getting sleepless nights.
Sources said after the Lt Governor visited Civil Secretariat in Srinagar and held meetings with the Commissioner Secretaries, the effect of his maiden interaction with the official machinery was such that most of the officials were busy looking into official files till late at night.
To everyone's surprise the very next morning, on November 2, Murmu travelled from north to south of Kashmir, a distance of over 200 miles, holding meetings with the administrations of Baramulla and Anantnag districts.
It is for the first time that such a dignitary travelled from north to south of Kashmir in a day to hold meetings with the official machinery and also to get firsthand account of the governance at the district levels in the militancy-infested region.
Sources said during all his meetings with the official machinery, Murmu stressed on brining in accountability and efficiency in the system such that the people of Jammu and Kashmir get benefitted.
The Lieutenant Governor is understood to have told the official machinery that performance of each of them would be measured in terms of efficiency and honesty and that there would be no scope for any lame excuses when it comes to deliverance of good governance to the people.
Known among the most upright and efficient officials, who also enjoys proximity with both the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Murmu has long been known as a hard task master, who all through his service career ensured that the common people get benefitted from governance.
Sources said what official machinery in Jammu and Kashmir has largely inferred from his interactions is that no corruption or maladministration would be tolerated.
"He (Murmu) is always there to help out the officials and this why special financial powers for expenditures have been instantly vested in the officials. But if anyone is found resorting to any sort of indiscipline, he or she will have to face axe," opined a senior official adding, ""With such a dynamic and upright man in place, many are bound to get sleepless nights."
