Ayodhya verdict: Section 144 imposed in Jammu, Srinagar schools, colleges remain closed | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 9: Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday imposed Section 144 CrPC in the region and also ordered closure of all school and colleges across the zone as a preventive measure in view of Ayodhya verdict. A senior official here told that section 144 was imposed in the midnight in entire Jammu and Kashmir, indefinitely till further orders and added, ''all schools and colleges (private and government) shall also remain closed as precautionary measure till further orders while no crowd of more than five to be allowed to assemble''. However, the administration had also declared a dry day on Saturday and bursting of fire crackers was also not allowed. Meanwhile transport especially the commercial vehicles remained off road due to restrictions while the commuters, including the Vaishno Devi pilgrims and tourist, faced hardships. Concertina wires were laid in parts of the city and movement of vehicles is also restricted in some areas and the situation overall is peaceful and normal. Meanwhile divisional administration in Kashmir had imposed restrictions and ordered closure of Universities and colleges as a precautionary measure on Saturday, when Supreme Court gave its verdict on the Ayodhya-Babri Masjid land dispute case. However, students of all educational institutions, including colleges and universities, have stayed away from their classes since August 5, when Centre scrapped Article 370, besides downgrading the state into two Union Territories (UTs). The administration on Saturday imposed restrictions in the valley, including Srinagar, as a precautionary measure, officials said. They said the restrictions have been imposed to maintain law and order. It was ordered that all colleges and universities will remain closed today. The Board of School Education (BOSE) has also postponed 12th class examinations which were scheduled to be held today in the valley. However, people, who are observing strike since August 5 against scrapping of special status of the state, remained unconcerned. |
