CGPWA celebrates 37th National Pensioners' Day | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 17: The Central Government Pensioners' Welfare Association (CGPWA) J&K representing pensioners of 36 Central Government Departments/Ministries including All India Services celebrated 37th National Pensioners' Day at Conference Hall District Police Lines here today. Kuldeep Khoda, former DG Police & Chief Vigilance Commissioner, J&K, was the chief guest. The function was attended by a large number of Association Members and special invitees from various Organizations of State Government pensioners; besides eminent social activists totaling over 100 participants. Khoda in his address complimented the Association for running a versatile organization which looks after the interests of the pensioners and senior citizens, besides its active involvement in carrying out varied activities which promote social welfare under Sankalp Scheme of Govt of India aiming at utilizing the experience and expertise of pensioners for voluntary service to the society. S S Wazir, President CGPWA, in his address, gave a brief background of the Pensioners' Day which was first celebrated in the country on 17th December, 1983 to commemorate landmark judgment of the Supreme Court on 17th December, 1982 in DS Nakara vs Union of India case that pension was a matter of right to the retiree and a gratis. K B Jandial, Member Executive Committee, briefed the participants on latest developments in Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) in Jammu and its benefits. With concerted efforts of the Association, SMVDNSH Kakryal has been empanelled under CGHS with cashless facility and a new CGHS Wellness Centre sanctioned for Srinagar. Earlier, the chief guest planted a sapling of Summer Apple, in the premises of the Police Conference Hall Complex. |
