e-coli in Bowli water, PHE declares it unfit to drink | | | Ashwani Sharma Early times report
Udhampur, Feb 13: Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department here has declared Baba Londana Devisthan Bowli’s water unfit for consumption after harmful E-coli pathogen was discovered in it. Sources informed that E-coli infection may cause infections in human and animal bodies. Reliable sources informed that incessant pollution caused by industrial units in the area and irresponsible Pollution Control Board (PCB) as well as Industries department of Udhampur are prime culprits behind causing the damage to spring at Baba Londana Devisthan. Locals informed that they were drinking the water of this Bowli for decades but now PHE Department has written on the wall of this spring source and declaring the water unfit for drinking but we are not ready to agree to this notice. Sources informed that many industrial units have been installed about 3-4 meters away from the Bowli and in the dead of night they dispose their waste into a Nallah passing near the Bowli. Executive Engineer PHE Udhampur when contacted said that they sent the water sample for lab test after direction of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur. In the test finding, presence of e-coli was discovered in water sample and it may be found due to leakage of septic tank or due to chemical pollution of chemical industries.
