Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 3: JK Electronic Ear & Prime Speech & Hearing Clinic conducted an educational event & free hearing screening camp in collaboration with Rotary club Jammu on hearing loss and cochlear implants. The event was attended and hearing testing was done on more than 100 people by Dr Navneet Gupta & Hearing aid trial was given by Puneet Gupta and team JKKEE.
Dr Navneet Gupta, Assistant Professor, Consultant Audiologist and Speech Pathologist, ASCOMS & Hospital reported that around 466 million people worldwide have disabling hearing loss, and 34 million of these are children. 60% of childhood hearing loss is due to preventable causes. The high burden of deafness globally and in India is largely preventable and avoidable. In India, 63 million people (6.3%) suffer from significant auditory loss. Nationwide disability surveys have estimated hearing loss to be the second most common cause of disability. A lack of skilled manpower and human resources make this problem a huge challenge. Hearing loss may result from genetic causes, complications at birth, certain infectious diseases, chronic ear infections, the use of particular drugs, exposure to excessive noise, and ageing. People with hearing loss benefit from early identification; use of hearing aids, cochlear implants and other assistive devices; and other forms of educational and social support
