Early Times Report

POONCH, Mar 3: The claims of the administration to provide better healthcare to the citizens fall flat as many health centres are running without specialists from last so many years.
According to reports, Sub District Hospital (SDH) Mandi in border district Poonch is running without specialists following which the locals are suffering a lot. Reports said that posts of Surgeon, Child specialist, Physician, Gynecologist, Anesthesia consultant of SDH Mandi are lying vacant since last six years and despite many appeals to the higher authorities the administration has failed to fill up the same. The locals while talking to media said that due to non-availability of specialist in SDH they are forced to visit private clinics which are draining their pockets. The sources privy to the affairs of SDH Mandi said that the sanction strength of medical officers in SDH Mandi is eight but at present there are only five medical officers who are manning Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) which witnesses massive rush of patients. The source further said that on an average around 1000 patients visits OPD for checkup and the absence of specialists and medical officers is badly hampering the smooth functioning of the hospital. The locals also alleged that the administration has transferred two specialists last year but failed to make their replacement. The people have sought the intervention of the Lt Guv Girish Chandra Murmu and urged him to direct the health department to fill all vacant posts on priority to provide a sigh of relief to the commoners.
