Jammu, Mar 3: An interactive session was organised by the Department of Botany, G.G.M Science College of Jammu today on 3rd of March, 2020 to celebrate The chief guest of the occasion was O.P Sharma Vidyarthi (Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests J&K), popularly known as the tree talk crusader. This was his 850th tree talk (entitled as Avian Tree Talk). It is the day to commemorate adoption of International Trade on Endangered Species (CITES) of flora and fauna 3rd march 1973. It also marked World Wildlife Day designated by UNO through resolution no. 68 dated 20th of February 2013. Some of the important points which he deliberated upon included: “Wilderness sustains biodiversity. Biodiversity is backbone of economy, source of goods and services. Quality life is outcome of quality wilderness. Let us adore and explore wilderness to know fellow denizens, creatures which evolved before humans and need coexistence in the web of life. Many trees, plants, climbers, butterflies, fish, reptiles, birds, mammals showing decline in their habitat and is a cause of concern. Convention on International trade in endangered species of flora & fauna adopted on 3rd march 1973 regulates trade in species of threatened taxa like Pangolins, Tigers, Hornbills, sea shells, Red sanders, Kutki, Kuth.
