Strict measures being taken against begging menace

JAMMU, Mar 3: The Police and Civil administration has decided to take strict measures against increasing menace of begging in the urban areas, including Jammu city and peripheral townships.
The District Senior Superintendents of Police have been directed to liaise with the district Magistrates to ensure that sufficient infrastructure is created to comply with the provision of the Act and ensure strict action in case of organised/forced begging under Sec 363-A IPC and Sec 76 of Juvenile care protection Act 2015.
The move has been taken on a report of District Special Branch, Jammu, sought after frequent government received several complaints from various areas.
The District Special Branch, Jammu has found that begging does take place near shopping malls, and cross roads, where vehicles halt at red light.
It reported that they (Beggars) put pictures of different gods and goddesses to exploit the religious sentiments of the commuters, as they seek alms in the name of god. Some incidents of beggars pestering the locals have also come to notice. The report also reveals that their numbers vary from season to season and it generally increases during yatra season or during other religious festivals across the city.
