Renaming prominent places should not be promoted: Chadha | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 3: R K Chadha, former state Treasurer PDP and President Citizen's Forum, has urged the government not to go for indiscriminate renaming of prominent places in J&K. In a press statement issued here today, Chadha said that renaming City Chowk to Bahrat Mata Chowk may be appreciated by many but it is a bad precedence. He further said Bharat Mata is equated to epics and holy Books of different religions in this country, and one feel hurt when the holy books are desecrated. The Bharat Mata board fixed in the center of City Chowk Jammu is a center of attraction for desecration by animals, traffic and common people. The respect for the mother and mother-land should be in one's hearts and not depicted on the streets to be misused by the all and sundry. Chadha requested Lt Governor G C Murmu not to start or promote the renaming of prominent places in J&K UT, otherwise it will become difficult to stop diversionary tactics of many unwanted groups in the Union Territory. |
