Free mega health camp organized

RAJOURI, Mar 4: A free mega camp on mental health awareness was organised at village Chambitarar, a far-flung and hilly hamlet in district Rajouri, under the banner of District Mental Health Programme.
Dr Iqbal Malik, Block Medical Officer, Kandi, also holding the charge of District Mental Health Programme. said that mental health is among the most underestimated and neglected realities of life and that those suffering from mental health issues are among the most stigmatised people even in this day in age, in India at least 13.7 % the population has been projected to be suffering from mental disorders and depression will be the second leading cause of disease by 2020. This is not on the surface and is a hidden menace. He further said that stigma and discrimination against people living with mental disorders affect their education, employment, and access to care. Every year one adult in four, along with one child in ten, will have a mental health issue. A large amount of human potential is lost due to non-treatment of mental illness. Besides this, the department also organised a General Medical check-up cum Certificate camp and a total of 176 old age certificates for pension purposes,22 labour Certificates for fitness, 8 widow pensions certificate was issued on the spot The Doctors examined and treated more then 240 patients having different ailments, provided free medicine and Laboratory tests and 42 children were vaccinated during the day-long camp.
