Phone cracking gives boost to NIA probe into Kashmir terror
3/4/2020 10:59:06 PM

Early Times Report
jammu, Mar 4: The cracking of a phone of a foreign militant, who was killed in Kashmir last year, has given a boost to the probe being done by the National Investigating Agency into the terror networks operational in Kashmir.
Sources said last year when the forces killed a top Pakistani militant who had masterminded the Pulwama suicide bombing that left over 40 paramilitary personnel dead on February 14, 2019, apart from recovery of arms and ammunition, the forces had seized a US made mobile phone that couldn't be cracked immediately.
Sources said after months of hi-tech probe the phone could be cracked and it gave a major lead to the forces about the network of terror groups operational in Kashmir and how they were in touch with their handlers in Pakistan.
A senior official privy to the cracking of the phone said, it has given a major boost to the investigations and that numerous arrests were arrested in the coming days.
"The phone has proved a goldmine of information. Apart from phone numbers, the phone has social media contacts of the terror handlers. Some of the videos on carrying out terror strikes have also been discovered in the phone," said the source on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the recent arrest of a terrorist on February 28 from south Kashmir was also linked to the cracking of the phone.
Sources said it would take some weeks for the investigators to dig out all details from the phone. "A dedicated team is working on the phone and all information is being scrutinized to dig out even the minutest details," said one official.
Sources said cracking the phone was one of the major challenges for the NIA but that it managed to do it.
"Initially it looked impossible, but the mission has been accomplished through dedication and commitment to the work," the sources said.
