Excise Deptt conducts series of raids, 60 liters lahan destroyed

Jammu, Mar 21: Jammu March 21: Continuing the raids to check offences under the Excise Act, the Deptt. conducted series of raids in Doda, poonch, Jammu, udhampur, samba, kathua. The raids were conducted with a view to find violations and check vehicles plying on high ways to check drug and contraband smuggling.
A raiding team seized lahan in excise sub range RS pura found and destroyed 60 kgs of it. Around 100 Vehicles were checked at random on high ways. Those who participated in the operation included ETO South, Nipun Tickoo, ETO North, Nagesh Singh, ETO Samba, Suraj Prakash, ETO Kathua, Virender Kumar, ETO Udhampur Rupali Vaid, ETO Doda Nayeem Mughal, ETO Rajouri Virender Pawar alongwith Inspectors Renu Sharma, Farooq Chowdary, Bikramjeet Singh, Arif Hussain, Tariq Hussain, Arun kumar, Razi Ahmad, Rahul Augustum etc.
Pertinently on knowing about the seizure of liquor at samba by police, The Excise Commissioner has appreciated the police and asked the ETO to also launch requisite proceedings in case as mandated under the Act and ask concerned incharge of police station to report the proceedings to concerned Deputy Commissioner Excise as mandated under the Act for further proceedings.
The commissioner has further directed all the ETO’s to share the proceedings of such cases on day to day basis, enabling the department to compile a data of habitual offenders and violators of Act. This Mr Rajesh shavan said, is as per the mandate of Act and liquor licensing and sale rules, so that the root cause of illicit trade is eliminated in professional and technical way by the department.
