Munish Gupta urges Govt to clean drains, improve lanes of Govindpura-Chatha | Locals aghast over step motherly treatment being meted out to them | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 14: Munish Gupta, Editor in Chief, Early Times has urged the Lieutenant Governor led administration of Jammu & Kashmir to take immediate steps to solve problems of people of Jammu division which they are facing for a long period of time now. Responding to the problems being faced by the people of Gandhi Nagar constituency Munish said that many areas of this constituency have been left to the mercy of God. He said that despite repeated reminders the people at helm have not taken any step to solve problems of people. Munish, who is going to contest the next assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency as an independent candidate said that people of Govindpura-Chatha have been up against many odds. He said the lanes and drains of the area are in pitiable condition and same need to be improved so that people heave a sigh of relief. “Lanes and drains constitute the important components of the life of citizens living in urban or rural areas. Both these components are missing badly in the Govindpura-Chatha area and the problem on account of this need to be fixed and that too at the earliest so that people no more feel alienated,” said Munish. The residents of Govindpura-Chatha believe that they are at the receiving end since the civic amenities like lanes and drains are in a dilapidated condition. The residents said that drains of the area are always overflowing with the same causing numerous problems for them. “Since the garbage gets collected in the drains there is blockage of the drains. As a result of this the drains overflows and the water is spilled on the lanes in the area. Given the fact that summer season has set in the problems are going to compound in the coming days. It is important that necessary steps are taken in this regard,” said the residents. The residents said that clear cut directions should be issued to the sanitation staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation to lift the garbage from the area. They said that once the garbage is lifted there would no collection of the same in the drains thus leading to overflowing of the drains. “The basic problem is that concerned people do not do their job with honesty. As a result of this we have to encounter the problems. It is important that the concerned officials are put to task so that they deliver to their best level on the ground when it comes to the Govindpura-Chatha area,” said the residents. The residents said that lanes of the area also need to be developed since they are in bad condition. They said that roads should be developed according to the modern day demands adding that this too should be done on priority. |
