SRINAGAR, Apr 14: For a change there were some good news on the Corona Virus front in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir as just eight cases were reported over the past 24 hours. At the same time, 14 more COVID-19 patients recovered today and were discharged from the hospitals in Srinagar and Bandipora. Sounding optimistic the spokesman for Jammu & Kashmir government Rohit Kansal tweeted, “For now our luck seems to be holding!!! 8 new cases, 14 recoveries. New cases-06 from Kashmir and 02 from Jammu Division.14 recoveries, all from Kashmir. Total cases now 278.” Earlier Kansal tweeted, “Bandipora too brings news of recovery. Well done.” Before that he wrote on the social networking site, “More Positive Developments: 13 more COVID + ve patients discharged from CD Hospital Srinagar after treatment/recovery. Good Job everyone.” The fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from Srinagar, Jammu, Anantnag and Bandipora districts. While three cases were reported from Srinagar, two cases each came to the fore from Jammu and Bandipora districts and one case was reported from Anantnag district. Significantly, this is the first case of Corona Virus in the Anantnag district. Reports said that a doctor and dental technician belonging to Jammu tested positive for COVID-19. Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina said that the two new COVID-19 cases include a doctor from Archaya Shri Chandra College of Medical Sciences and Hospital (ASCOMS) Jammu and a Dental Technician. “Both have tested positive for coronavirus today at GMC Jammu,” she said. Sources said that the two have a contact history with an already positive patient who was admitted in the ASCOMS Jammu also known as Batra hospital some days ago. The government through the media bulletin informed that eight new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), two from Jammu and six from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 278. “Out of 278 positive cases, 244 are active positive, 30 have recovered and four have died. Out of the total recovered patients, 14 patients from Kashmir division were discharged today from CD Hospital Srinagar and SKIMS Soura. Furthermore, till date 55,498 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that these include 7,760 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 365 in hospital quarantine, 244 in hospital isolation and 30,952 under home surveillance. Besides, 16,173 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. It said that out of 4,619 test reports available, 4,341 samples have tested as negative till today. The bulletin said that Srinagar has 73 positive cases wherein 62 are active positive, 10 recovered and one has died, Bandipora 53 positive cases with 44 active positive, eight recovered and one died, Baramulla 40 positive cases with 39 active positive, one has died, Budgam 11 positive cases with nine active positive and two recovered, Pulwama three positive cases with two active positive and one recovered, Shopian 14 positive cases-all active positive, Kupwara with 23 positive cases-all active positive, Ganderbal with five positive cases-all active positive, Kulgam with five positive cases-all active positive and Anantnag with one positive case, who is active positive. Similarly, Jammu has 23 positive cases of whom 20 are active positive and three have recovered, Udhampur 19 positive cases of which 14 are active positive, four recovered and one died, while as Rajouri three positive cases of which two are active positive and one recovered, Samba has four positive cases and all are active positive and a single positive case has recovered fully in Kishtwar district. Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, the general public has been urged to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. The general public has been advised to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly by calling on COVID-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed. People have been asked to take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap & water; and observing coughing & sneezing etiquettes. Furthermore according to the advisory people have been asked to wear mask or face cover while moving out of home. The general public has been advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Government from time to time and are urged to rely only on the information released by the government in this regard through the daily media bulletin to print and electronic media. |
