SRINAGAR, Apr 23: The positive cases of Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 434 today as 27 fresh cases were reported from the Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. Reports said that from Kashmir 26 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from Shopian, Anantnag, Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla and Budgam districts. In the Jammu division the lone case was reported from Ramban. Pertinently this is the first case of COVID-19 in Ramban district. The district was COVID free up to today. From the Kashmir valley while nine cases were reported from Shopian district in South Kashmir the other cases were reported from Anantnag (seven), Kupwara (four), Baramulla (three), Bandipora (two) and Budgam (one) districts respectively. With today’s cases the positive cases of Corona Virus in Kashmir reached 377 while as the number is 57 in Jammu. Active positive cases of Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir are 337 since 92 persons have recovered and five persons have died. The Jammu & Kashmir government issued the media bulletin at 5 PM by which 20 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus had come to the fore. It was only at about 8:45 PM that Rohit Kansal, the spokesman for the Jammu & Kashmir government tweeted that seven fresh positive cases of COVID-19 have come to the fore. “Just In 7 more cases reported from Kashmir. Total positive cases now 434. Jammu-57 and Kashmir-377,” he tweeted. The media bulletin said that one case from Jammu division and 19 from Kashmir division have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 427. It said that out of 427 positive cases, 330 are active positive, 92 have recovered and five have died. “Furthermore, till date 64,876 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which includes 6,039 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 279 in hospital quarantine, 330 in hospital isolation and 13,283 under home surveillance. Besides, 44,940 persons have completed their surveillance period,” said the bulletin. The bulletin said that out of 10,977 test results available, 10,550 samples have tested as negative till April 23, 2020. Bandipora has 99 positive cases wherein 80 are active positive, 18 recovered and one has died, Srinagar 79 positive cases with 51 active positive, 27 recovered and one died and Baramulla 50 positive cases with 44 active positive, four recovered and two died. “Kupwara has 41 positive cases with 35 active positive and six recovered; Shopian has 55 positive cases with 49 active positive, six recovered; Ganderbal has 14 positive cases with 12 active positive and two have recovered; Budgam 14 positive cases of which five are active positive with nine recovered cases; Kulgam has six cases and all are active positive; Pulwama three positive cases who all have recovered and Anantnag district has nine positive cases and all are active positive,” reads the bulletin. Similarly, Jammu has 26 positive cases of whom 21 are active positive and five have recovered, Udhampur 20 positive cases of which 11 are active positive, eight recovered and one died, while as Samba district has four positive cases and all are active positive; Rajouri has four positive cases, one active positive and three cases have recovered; Kathua has one positive case which is active positive; Ramban has one positive case who is active positive. Meanwhile, Kishtwar has only one positive case who has recovered. Meanwhile, according to the advisory issued in the media bulletin, COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease which can affect anyone and best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. The advisory said that for protection against this disease, people are requested to stay indoors and strictly implement social distancing measures. People are advised to take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap and water; observing coughing and sneezing etiquettes and wearing mask or face cover while moving out of their homes. It said that people must avoid close contact with anyone that has fever and cough and in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly. |
