Mother of two daughters, the woman identified as Jagbir Kour wife of Hakam Singh (who is an army man) resident of Lam Pukharni received burn injuries on Tuesday evening at around 7 PM and was shifted to Nowshera Sub-District Hospital by her neighbors and was later referred to GMCH Jammu where she was under treatment and was in serious condition due to 90% body burns. “On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, woman succumbed in Jammu hospital after which necessary medico-legal formalities were conducted and body was brought back in Nowshera and last rites were conducted by her parental family in Bhata village.” said police sources. They added that woman has left behind her two minor daughters and her husband is serving in army. Meanwhile, parental family members of the victim alleged that the incident took place due to domestic violence with her father-in-law, who they alleged is main accused in the incident. “It is a clear case of domestic violence. Her father-in-law is accused in it and her husband is also a part of this evil,” her parental family members alleged. They said to have made attempts to intervene in the matter in past to resolve the matter but for no use as her father-in-law is of very aggressive nature and always used to misbehave with us. “We call for probe and stern action against the accused as it is a clear case of domestic violence.” they added. Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Police Officer Nowshera, Zakir Shaheen Mirza, who was present in the last rites of the victim, said that inquest proceedings under CrPC 174 have been started into the matter. “We are going as per law and probe is going on and we assure that law will take its own course and who so ever will be found guilty shall be booked,” the officer said. He informed that a team of police headed by SHO Nowshera and Police Post incharge from the area also visited the area and carried out necessary legal formalities.
