Kupwara on forefront to minimize migrant labourer’s difficulties | Stranded passengers allowed to move towards Gurez valley | | S Tahir-ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, May 14: The residents of Gurez Valley who were stranded in Bandipora were allowed to return to their homes on Thursday. As many as 613 passengers returned to their homes in Gurez valley in 75 vehicles, while as district administration Kupwara has made all possible efforts for stranded migrant labourers. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Bandipora Reyaz Ahmad Beigh said the passengers were screened by a team of doctors at Lal Quila Morh at Pethkoot village. He said the passengers were allowed to proceed only after getting clearance from doctors. He said the vehicles were also thoroughly fumigated before allowing them to proceed towards their destination. Beigh said the decision to put them in administrative or home quarantine will be done by the civil administration in Gurez in consultation with the doctors. He said that, the vehicles are allowed to move between 5:30 am to 11 am and urged the stranded passengers to reach Lal Qilal Morh during this time to proceed to their destinations. Though Gurez-Bandipora road was opened for traffic earlier this month but the entry of people into the Gurez valley was banned as a precautionary measure amid covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile there are reports from Kupwara district that the district Administration Kupwara has made all possible efforts to minimize the difficulties of those migrant labourers who have stranded in different areas of the district during lockdown, aimed at to contain the spread of dreaded Corona virus, COVID-19 pandemic. The Administration designated Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC), Kupwara, Arshad Qadir as Nodal Officer for stranded migrant labourers of district Kupwara at the initial stage of the lockdown. The Nodal Officer along with officials of Labour and Revenue Department conducted a survey across the district and identified 1680 labourers, hailing from different states of the country are stranded in the district. Giving details of ration etc, the Nodal Officer said that 170 quintal rice and 2.5 quintal aatta have been distributed among these migrant labourers so far at doorsteps of their locations, besides, 22quintal dal, 15 quintal salt, 1300 liter oil, 800 kg milk powder, 2500 kg chilli powder, 200 kg turmeric powder, 1300 kg sugar and 650 kg Lipton Tea. The labourers were also provided cooking gas and 1000 masks and 20 bottles of sanitizer. However the Nodal Officer further informed that six relief camps and shelters have been established at Government Middle School (GMS) Kralgund, GMS Langate, GMS Wadipora, GMS Villigam, Government High School (GHS) Zachaldara and GMS Qalamabad where 110 Migrant workers are being facilitated with proper shelter, ration and other essential commodities. The medical facilities were also provided to these migrants labourers during the lockdown as and when required, they were given proper counseling regarding maintenance of personal hygiene, frequent hand washing, usage of masks and observation of social distancing.
