Pesticide unit in BBIA violates lockdown norms | Allows over 150 workers on job despite permission of only 50 | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 14: A pesticide industry in Bari Brahmana Industrial Area (BBIA) has allegedly been violating lockdown norms and allowing more workers than the limit permitted by the government to run industrial units in the wake of COVID-19. Sources told Early Times that government had allowed industries to function with a rider of deploying less number of workers around 33% of the total number of workers so that social distancing should be maintained to avoid COVID-19. “It has come to know that the alleged pesticide industrial unit, which was given the permission of 50 workers, has allowed over 150 workers inside the unit, which has instilled the fear among the workers. The management of this unit took 33% of permanent workers and rest were hired from open market to run the functioning of unit,” they alleged further adding, that on paper, the management has been showing that 33% workers have been doing job but fact of the matter is that there are 100% workers presence inside the unit, which has posed serious threat of COVID-19. Although the permanent workers had raised their concerns with the management about their safety but it turned deaf ears to their plights, they said. Not only this, the workers informed that one of the employees had gone to his native state in UP, who had now returned to Jammu recently. “He has been trying to again join the duty without undergoing mandatory quarantine period of 14 days,” said the workers, adding that the labourer is trying to give an impression that he might not be infected from COVID-19. Astonishingly, when this matter was brought into the knowledge of concerned District Administration by some labourers few days back, no action was taken. |
