‘SHOs facilitating illegal mineral mining in Jammu’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 14: Many Station House Officers (SHOs) of Jammu and Kashmir Police are allegedly facilitating illegal mineral mining in rural areas of Jammu. Sources told Early Times that “despite complete blanket ban on the mineral mining in Jammu, the police have been helping mineral mining mafias in lieu of commission.” Recently a protest took place in Jammu rural area wherein some unscrupulous elements allegedly on the behest of the SHO of rural Jammu area staged a protest against the concerned SDPO for taking action against this mafia. As per sources, some locals brought the issue of the illegal mining in a particular area into the notice of the SDPO following which the officer reached on the spot. “The miscreants present there started pelting stones on police party due to which police party left from there,” the sources added. “The stone pelting was held on the instance of the concerned SHO, who was extending full help to the sand/mineral mafia,” they alleged further adding that similarly there are other SHOs, who are actively involved in this illegal practice. Not only these SHOs but their juniors ‘Chowki Officers’ are also minting money out of this illegal business. Shockingly, these officers are so powerful that they don’t even listen to their immediate superiors. When SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil was contacted, in this regard, he said that inquiry will be conducted to verify the matter and appropriate and strict action will be taken against the police officers involved in this illegal practice. |
