After MHA’s directions ANTF constituted in J&K to take on influential drug mafia | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 14: Realizing importance of a dedicated department to deal with influential drug mafia, J&K Government today set-up Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) headed by a Superintendent of Police (SP) level officer. The task force will be under the overall control of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Crime, J&K. According to an order no 112-Home-2020-dated 14-5-2020, issued by Shakeel Ur Rehman, Special Secretary to Government, posts of one SP, two DySPs, nine Inspectors, 18 Sub-Inspectors, 18 Asst. Sub-Inspectors and Sgt Ct/Constables have been sanctioned for newly created ANTF to deal with the drug mafia. These posts have been transferred from anti-hijacking unit of the J&K Police because central forces have been already taken control of airports of J&K. Credible sources said that step to form ANTF has been taken following directions from Ministry of Home Affairs because it was been established that drug mafia has been funding various terror groups of J&K. As reported earlier, like other northern states, J&K is virtually slipping into the tight grip of drug mafia and parents are helplessly watching their teenage children dying slow deaths due to failure of the authorities to crackdown on mafia well connected with politicians and cops. Except cosmetic exercises nothing effective has been done so far from government side to eradicate this menace which is more dangerous than terrorism. The sensitive border state of J&K is gripped with narco-terrorism as international drug mafia is smuggling drugs through Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to sell small portion in this State and remaining consignment in the neighbouring northern states. |
