‘Cops fall prey to Covid infection’, Govt directs top brass to take all measures | | | ISHTIYAQ AHMAD Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 19: With the biggest cluster of cops having fallen prey to the deadly covid-19 infection in Kashmir valley, the LG GC Murmu led administration has directed the top brass of police forces to take all measures so that the virus does not spread. According to reports around, 55 of Jammu and Kashmir personnel, including an SP Rank officer has been tested positive for coronavirus in Anantnag. This is so far the biggest cluster of cops to have fallen prey to the infection. All personnel are said to be from armed police IR 11th battalion. The reports said that, out of 102 cops who were tested, 36 were confirmed positive on Monday, and 19 had tested positive on Sunday. This spike of 55 cases has shot up the number of total Covid-19 infected personnel to 65. “The issue of a number of coronavirus cases in police force was discussed with the top officials. Forces who are on forefront have been asked to take all precautionary measures so that the virus does not spread,” one of the top official’s in the home department told early times. He said that concerned police officials were also asked to ensure the wellbeing of the infected police personnel. Authorities in police have been asked to launch multiple measures including sanitising the premises to contain the infection. “Troops have been also directed to strictly follow anti-coronavirus medical protocols”, the official said. “The directions include from providing awareness and training about precautions, changing the arrangements in mess and staying facilities in barracks, boosting immunity as per the guidelines, ensuring proper personnel management, keeping in view the age of the security personnel and their health history,” he said He said there are directions that there should be sharing of best practices among the forces and also laying down the Standard Operating Procedures for health-related as well as management issues, like sanitisation, and ensuring the use of appropriate protective gear by the personnel etc. Sources said that, Anantnag Police is undertaking aggressive testing to identify Covid-19 cases. Coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir have so far hovered around 1200 mark and 16 deaths. Meanwhile a senior police officer said that there is a huge concern regarding the spike in cases. “We have told force personnel to take utmost precaution” he said.
