SRINAGAR, May 19: The death toll due to Corona Virus in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 17 today as a person from Baramulla district passed away at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical (SKIMS) Soura. Moreover, 28 more persons tested positive for COVID-19 today. Reports said that a 55‐year-old COVID-19 positive patient from Rafiabad in Baramulla district died of a cardiac arrest. The patient was admitted at SKIMS, Soura for some days and today he breathed his lost. This is the fourth COVID-19 death in Baramulla district with Srinagar recording five such deaths. Anantnag recorded three deaths with Jammu, Udhampur, Bandipora, Budgam and Kulgam recording one death each. In the meantime, 28 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from different districts of the union territory today. While 22 cases were reported from Kashmir six such cases got reported from Jammu division. Anantnag recorded 11 fresh cases followed by Kulgam seven cases, Baramulla, Udhampur and Kathua two cases each while as Ganderbal, Pulwama, Rajouri and Samba recording a case each. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 28 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), six from Jammu division and 22 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1317. Out of 1317 positive cases, 653 are active positive, 647 have recovered and 17 have died. Moreover, 38 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, two from Jammu division and 36 from Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 96,826 test results available, 95,509 samples have tested as negative till May 19, 2020. Additionally, till date 1,19,155 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 31,524 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 87 in hospital quarantine, 653 in hospital isolation and 19,555 under home surveillance. Besides, 67,319 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 247 positive cases, with 157 active positive, 87 recovered, three deaths; Srinagar has 169 positive cases with 68 active positive, 96 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 166 positive cases, with 156 active positive, nine recoveries and one death; Bandipora has 137 positive cases with eight active positive, 128 recovered, one death and Baramulla has 121 positive cases with 26 active positive, 91 recovered, four deaths. “Shopian has 109 positive cases with 34 active positive, 75 recovered; Kupwara has 101 positive cases with 53 active positive, 48 recovered; Budgam has 58 positive cases, 27 active positive, 30 recovered and one death; Ganderbal has 25 positive cases with 10 active cases, 15 recoveries; and Pulwama reported 18 positive cases with 12 active positive, six recovered,” the bulletin said. The bulletin said that Jammu has 47 positive cases with 17 active positive cases, 29 recoveries, one death; Kathua has 36 positive cases with 35 active positive, one recovered; Udhampur has 28 positive cases with eight active positive case, 19 recovered, one death and Ramban has 24 positive cases with 23 active positive, one recovered. “Samba has 14 positive cases with eight active positive, six recoveries, Rajouri has eight positive cases with four active positive cases, four recovered; Reasi has three positive cases with two active positive, one recovered; Poonch has three active positive cases; Kishtwar has two positive cases with one active positive case, one recovered and Doda has one active positive case,” the bulletin said. The advisory has informed the public in general that, use of gloves in public spaces is not a recommended or proven prevention measure against COVID-19; Wearing gloves in public spaces does not replace the need for hand hygiene, nor does it offer any additional measure of protection against the COVID-19 virus than hand hygiene. Gloves do not provide complete protection against hand contamination. The bulletin explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease so we need to be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us. “Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice”. |
