Why PDP patron is silent? | Muzaffar Beigh quiet as Mehbooba’s PSA gets 3 month extension | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 19: As PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s PSA was recently extended by three months and party cadre rued over the move, the PDP patron Muzaffar Hussain Beigh has once again preferred a very stoic silence over the issue- deciding not to utter a word on it. The silence of PDP patron on Mehbooba Mufti’s PSA extension seems to have caused a jittery within the party circles who term it an unfortunate development and extremely worrying scenario. A senior PDP leader told Early Times that the situation within the party is not conducive in any way and that the party patron’s absence from the scene has caused the already trouble torn party more anxiety. “The party patron hasn’t communicated with any of the party leaders. He has not even issued a single statement on the present political scenario. It looks like he has no stand on Mehbooba Mufti’s PSA extension which was even opposed by the rival national conference,” says the party leader. The present silence of Muzaffar Beigh has led many to believe that the situation in the coming time for the party is going to be crucial and it is not sure whether it would continue to remain intact or not. Beigh, a PDP founder member, had even hinted in 2018 at joining Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone. However, he dropped the idea soon after being appointed as PDP Patron- a position that was occupied by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Beigh in December 2018 had said that he was sidelined even when PDP and BJP stitched a common ground after the 2014 polls threw a fragmented mandate in the state. After around three months of deliberations, PDP formed alliance with the BJP and signed agenda of alliance that both the parties termed as a ‘guiding principle’ of running a coalition government in the state. “I was completely sidelined. On December 28, 2014, Mufti in the presence of Mehbooba had told me to get a document prepared for my preliminary negotiations with BJP. On January 1st, 2015,I was told by Mehbooba that I should stay back and some other person had been chosen to speak to BJP. I don’t know why they did so, but yes, I was sidelined, therefore I don’t have any knowledge about the terms and conditions of the engagement with BJP,” Beigh was quoted as having said in an interview. Beigh had slammed the PDP’s ministers for leaving the party president- Mehboba Mufti- alone during her tough time. He stated that soon after she took over the reins of power in the state, she was engulfed by the 2016 agitation and that none of her party ministers provided her any sort of emotional and moral support. |
