Ladakh becomes Coronavirus free; markets, private vehicles allowed with restrictions | | | Early Times Report
Leh, May 19: Ladakh has become Coronavirus free as there was no active positive case in the Union Territory, where markets and private vehicles have been allowed with some restrictions. An official said that all the 43 patients, who were tested positive for COVID-19, have been discharged from hospital after fully recovering, making Ladakh free from the infection. He said the last 2 positive patients were discharged from hospital on Tuesday after repeated test results came as negative. ‘’A teacher, who came to limelight last week after he continued online classes for his students despite being in quarantine, was along two patients discharged from the hospital,’’ he said. Lodged in an isolation centre of a hospital in Leh, Kifayat Hussain took online classes using internet communication tools like Zoom and making YouTube videos for his Class 9 and 10 students. ‘’I’m really thankful to the administration and media staff for taking good care of all the COVID-19 patients,’’ Hussain said after being discharged. The teacher, however, said that he faced slight problem while conducting online classes due to low internet speed. ‘’My students also encouraged me to continue the online classes while the medical staff also supported the initiative,’’ he added. The official said that with the discharge of these two patients on Tuesday, Leh has become COVID-19 free. The development comes a week after adjoining district of Kargil was declared COVID-19 free. He said 220 sample reports were received on Monday and all the reports have tested negative. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Sachin Kumar said that there are no restriction on movement of private vehicles in the district. However, he said some precautions have to be followed. ‘’Besides driver, only two persons can board a vehicle. Both the passengers and the driver of the vehicle should wear masks and maintain social distancing,’’ he said. He said the authorities are also allowing commercial vehicle, but the same rules apply to them as well. ‘’All the shops have also been allowed to open, but we have designed roster so that the business establishments can open according to time-table,’’ he said. Mr Kumar said that only two staff members will be allowed inside the shop and circles have to be made outside the establishment to maintain social distancing. The DC Leh said that public transport will continue to remain closed. ‘’All the activities will be allowed between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs every day,’’ he said, adding special permission (pass) will be required between 1900 hrs to 0700 hrs for any movement.
