Delay in reporting of samples irks inmates of quarantine centers

Early Times Report

KISHTWAR, May 27: The continuous and unnecessarily delay in finalization of the test report of people under quarantine units in Kishtwar has irked not only the inmates but also their families as a result of which the people kept under quarantine threatened to go on hunger strike before senior officials intervene.
As per the details available with Early Times, the inmates at NHPC Hospital’s isolation ward were kept in quarantine there after one of their accomplices with travel history from Bhopal found to be positive on May 13.
One of the inmates kept at Quarantine facility-cum-isolation ward in NHPC Hospital told the Early Times that they were shifted to the Hospital and their test samples for COVID-19 were collected on May 21, but the report of at least three tests is still awaited while rest of the people kept in this hospital premises found out to be negative.
“I along with other people kept in this quarantine hospital have been tested negative but we are not being allowed to go back to home even after completing 15 days mandatory period which irritate us,” said an inmate kept in NHPC Hospital adding that what was his and other people’s fault if there is delay in arrival of their test report.
He said that that the visiting doctor told them until and unless the remaining test reports came in, they cannot set them free.
He said that they have already suffered a lot and now they are unnecessarily being harassed on one or other pretext.
When contacted BMO Kishtwar, Dr Gansham Singh told the Early Times that they are regularly following the progress on test reports adding that hopefully it will come up soon.
Singh said that he will check the detail of the record in the morning and only then he can make the comment on the time when they will be relieved from the hospital quarantine. He said that delay in arrival of test report could be the one reason for delay in their release even if they have completed 15 days quarantine period.
Meanwhile, 46 people were today released from various quarantine centers while 48 others were sent to home quarantine yesterday and another 139 people were released on Eid and next day.
As per officials, 162 people are still under administrative quarantine.
