SRINAGAR, May 27: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reported highest number of Corona Virus cases in a single day as 162 fresh cases of COVID-19 came to fore from Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the union territory. At the same time, two more deaths took place due to Corona Virus today. With today’s fresh deaths the number of victims of COVID-19 reached 26. A death each was reported today from Srinagar in Central Kashmir and Anantnag district in South Kashmir. Reports said that a 55 year old man from Fateh Kadal in Srinagar died today at Chest Diseases (CD) Hospital Drugjan-Dalgate after suffering consecutive heart attacks. The man had been shifted to CD Hospital from SMHS Hospital after he tested positive for Corona Virus on May 18. He was responding to the treatment, but died today after suffering consecutive cardiac arrests. Reports said that a 70 years old man from Sarnal area in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district tested positive for COVID-19 today, a day after his death. The man who was having other ailments was shifted to GMC Anantnag on Tuesday where he died in the evening yesterday. His COVID-19 test report was received today and he was confirmed as a Corona Virus patient. So far 26 persons have lost their lives due to Corona Virus in Jammu & Kashmir. Srinagar district has recorded seven deaths with Anantnag reporting five deaths followed by Kulgam and Baramulla districts with four deaths each. Budgam and Jammu districts reported two deaths each while as Bandipora and Udhampur recording a death each. In the meantime, 162 fresh cases of Corona Virus were reported from Jammu & Kashmir over the past 24 hours or so. While 124 cases were reported from Kashmir valley 38 such cases came to the fore from Jammu division. With today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in the union territory reached 1921. Reports said that Kulgam district reported 27 fresh cases of Corona Virus followed by Kupwara 26 cases, Pulwama 21 cases, Srinagar 20 cases, Shopian 12 cases, Udhampur and Poonch 11 cases each, Baramulla 10 cases, Jammu and Anantnag four cases each, Kathua, Samba and Reasi three cases each, Bandipora, Budgam and Rajouri two cases each and Ramban one case. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 162 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 38 from Jammu division and 124 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir to 1921. Also two COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir division. Moreover, 21 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, five from Jammu division and 16 from Kashmir division. Out of 1921 positive cases, 1041 are active positive, 854 have recovered and 26 have died; three in Jammu division and 23 in Kashmir division. It said that out of 1, 45,162 test results available, 1, 43,241 samples have been tested as negative so far. Additionally, till date 1, 46,152 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 31,919 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 57 in hospital quarantine, 1,041 in hospital isolation and 35,843 under home surveillance. Besides, 77,266 persons have completed their surveillance period. The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 282 positive cases, 159 active positive, 118 recovered, five deaths; Kulgam has 255 positive cases, 230 active positive, 21 recoveries, four deaths; Srinagar has 209 positive cases, 76 active positive, 126 recovered, seven deaths; Baramulla has 153 positive cases, 51 active positive, 98 recovered, four deaths; Bandipora has 145 positive cases, 12 active positive, 132 recovered, one death. “Kupwara has 192 positive cases, 122 active positive, 70 recovered; Shopian has 141 positive cases, 34 active positive, 107 recovered; Budgam has 78 positive cases, 25 active positive, 51 recovered cases, two deaths; Pulwama has 49 positive cases, 37 active positive, 12 recovered and Ganderbal has 31 positive cases, seven active positive, 24 recoveries,” reads the bulletin. The bulletin said that Jammu has 113 positive cases, 75 active positive, 36 recoveries, two deaths; Ramban has 75 positive cases, 72 active positive, three recoveries; Kathua has 56 positive cases, 40 active positive, 16 recovered; Udhampur has 50 positive cases, 27 active positive, 22 recovered, one death; Samba has 32 positive cases, 22 active positive, 10 recoveries; “Rajouri has 15 positive cases, 11 active positive, four recovered; Poonch has 23 active positive cases; Kishtwar has eight positive cases, seven active positive, one recovered; Reasi has 12 positive cases, nine active positive, three recovered and Doda has two active positive cases,” reads the bulletin. The bulletin has urged upon the public to maintain social distancing as it is the key to stop and prevent the spread of COVID-19 from those who are infected to those who are not infected; reduce physical contact with others, keep at least 2-meter distance between yourself and others, when you are out. The more space between you and others, the harder it is for virus to spread. “Many people with COVID-19 don't develop or show any symptoms and don't feel unwell, that is why it is important to practice social distancing at all times to avoid contact with someone who is infected but not showing any symptoms. For practicing social distancing, we should avoid having guests/neighbours visit our homes to reduce the risk of infection transmission. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory,” the bulletin reads. |
