Game of speculations | | | Rumours about Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir may get a new advisory council have been making rounds for the past few days. Till now it has been a game of speculations which J&K BJP leaders have dismissed by claiming that there is no plan of any political advisory council. Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari has emerged as the chief contender. But National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah flying to New Delhi has added more spice in the drama. Though Omar has denied that he has gone to national capital for any political reason but many people are finding it hard to believe that he has gone to New Delhi for health checkup amidst the Corona crisis. The advisory council, which is being discussed, many believe could be a move to empower the people of Jammu and Kashmir politically. But the council should be balanced. Equal representation needs to be given to Jammu. There is every possibility about the idea of advisory council being put in place materializing as chances of any elections being held in near future in J&K UT look bleak. For any polls to be held the delimitation process has to be completed and holding elections amidst COVID-19 pandemic won’t be possible. May be for time being Centre would place an interim arrangement in place. But the BJP leaders in J&K have opposed any such move by stating that no such proposal is on cards. It seems someone needs to remind the leaders of the saffron party in J&K that everyone is aware of the fact that BJP high command and the Central Government doesn’t seek their approval before making any move. One of the Apni Party leaders had said that anything is possible but he had not elaborated what could be possible. If Centre decides to put an advisory council in place it would to some extent fill in the political vacuum which has been created post August 5, 2019, when the Government of India announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two union territories. Setting up of any advisory council would be a befitting reply to all those Kashmir centric leaders, who used to claim that post August 5, 2019 no one in Kashmir would lift the tricolour. It could be a new beginning as the council would include the people who will only lift the tricolour and no other flag like their predecessors. |
