Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 10: Shir Ram Sena, J&K unit condemned the killing of a Sarpanch in Anantnag district by terrorists, seeking security cover for the elected Panches and Sarpanches of J&K.
Condemning the killing of Sarpanch Ajay Pandita, who was shot dead at his orchard in Lukbawan village Larkipora, Anantnag, Rajiv Mahajan, President J&K unit, sought high-level probe over the killing of a Sarpanch.
Mahajan said the Panchs and Sarpanchs are left at the mercy of terror outfits as they had been denied security cover from time to time and the reasons best known to the government.
Mahajan asserted that BJP has failed to provide security to the elected Panch and Sarpanchs in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. “From 2011 to 2020, about 19 Panchayat members were killed while the fresh incident has again created a fear psychosis among them,” Mahajan added.
Holding the government responsible for the killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs, Mahajan asked the government to clear its stand over the security of PRI members. He said if the government is not capable of providing security to the elected PRI members then what was the purpose of holding PRI elections in J&K.
“This is the responsibility of the Central Government to provide security to Panchayat leaders of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding that this is high time for BJP government at the Centre to step in to save the precious lives of the innocent 33,000 elected representatives.
Mahajan appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide security to the Panchs and Sarpanches of J&K and give adequate compensation to the deceased.
