Quarantine centres in Poonch bereft of facilities, say inmates | | | RAJESH TANDON EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, June 16: People who are quarantined in various quarantine centres in and around Poonch have complained of inadequate facilities at the centres. The quarantined people while alleging lack of adequate facilities being provided to them said that the administration has even failed to ensure provision of basic amenities. “The condition of the toilets is not good and the water available here is not suitable to drink and bath. We are having a horrible experience,” an inmate at one of the centres told Early Times. “They want us to stay sanitized and this is what they give us. This is a major concern. This way, we cannot contain COVID-19 but will only get more cases,” he added. People in quarantine centres are also complaining of encountering problem of poor quality food, stinking and abysmal rooms and halls besides delay in COVID-19 test reports. “My sample was taken immediately on arrival here, I was assured that I would receive the test reports in two days’ time and had to stay in quarantine until then but even after four days I am yet to get the results of my test. This is happening with many other inmates also,” said a person in one of the quarantine centres. The inmates said that the J&K government especially district administration Poonch has completely failed in creating the required infrastructure for the quarantine centres. People from various quarantine centres have appealed to Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory to personally intervene into the matter and ensure provision of adequate facilities to the inamtes. When contacted the Nodal Officer Poonch and District Magistrate Poonch both refused to give comment on the issue. |
