Cracks surface in Peoples Conference, some leaders to quit | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 16: Cracks have surfaced in the Peoples Conference led by separatist turned mainstream leader Sajjad Lone. Sources said the some of the senior leaders of the party have decided to quit the PC even as their leader Sajjad Lone claims to be under house arrest. Sources said some of the PC leaders have been staying away from party activities and don’t even attend any of the party related meetings. Sources said in the last around two months, some of the senior leaders who had joined the PC after leaving other parties are finding their career insecure with Sajjad Lone and thus are thinking of other options to try their luck somewhere else. Sources said the cracks have not surfaced after the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir but that the process had started after the PC could not open its account in the Parliament elections held last year. “The party performed badly and that was one of the main shock for the party leadership,” said the sources. Sources said what added to the differences between the leaders was the so called declaration signed by the Kashmiri politicians days before the Article 370 was abrogated. “If you were supporting Modi Ji why did you join hands with the forces who were against the abrogation of the special status?” said one source, close to such developments. Sources said what added to the controversy was that Sajjad Lone was kept like “routine” politicians at Centaur Hotel after the arrest of such leaders in the wake of abrogation of the special status. “The development proved that he was not big a leader as Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah and thus many of us thought of his relationship with New Delhi. When he (Sajjad) is not a powerful politician his party cannot be powerful,” said a politician on the condition of anonymity. Despite repeated attempts, Sajjad Lone or other leaders of the PC were not available for comments. |
