Early Times Report

Jammu, June 16: J&K Police ultimately admitted that narcotic smuggled from across the Line of Control (LoC) from J&K is being transported in different parts of the country for earning huge profit. The money earned through illegal trade of drugs being used to sustain terrorism in J&K. IGP, Kashmir on Tuesday revealed that narcotics smuggled from across the LoC are being sold in Punjab, New Delhi, Mumbai and other cities of the country to make huge profits.
A gang involved in narco-terrorism was busted recently in Kupwara of North Kashmir where heroine worth Rs 100 crore and cash Rs 1.35 crore was seized from on Abdul Moomin Pir of Handwara. A whopping amount of Rs 5 crore was earned from the drugs sold in different parts of the country. Out of total 5 crore, Rs 3.5 crore was distributed among terrorists active in the Valley. The IG said that the narco-terror module was run by Lashkar terrorists based in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) comprising many Kashmiris, who have been there for some time now.
Already J&K government had constituted an Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in the month of May this year following directions from the Ministry of Home Affairs because it has been established that the drug mafia has been funding various terror groups of J&K.
Like other northern states, J&K is virtually slipping into the tight grip of the drug mafia and parents are helplessly watching their teenage children dying slow deaths due to failure of the authorities to crackdown on mafia well connected with politicians and cops.
Except cosmetic exercises nothing effective has been done so far from government side to eradicate this menace which is more dangerous than terrorism.
The sensitive border state of J&K is gripped with narco-terrorism as international drug mafia is smuggling drugs through Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) to sell small portion in this State and remaining consignment in the neighbouring northern states.
