Farmers disappointed as no ginger seeds provided to them | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, June 24: Farmers of several villages in Ghordi Block of district Udhampur have expressed their resentment against the Department of Agriculture as it failed to provide ginger seeds to them. Ginger cultivation is a profitable means of farming as farmers earn handsome income through it in Block Ghordi every year but this year due to lockdown farmers have no seed to sow when the season of sowing ginger is in its peak. Near about 200 farmers of several villages of Block Ghordi from decades are engaged in farming of ginger but unfortunate till date no seeds were provided to them by the Department of Agriculture Farmers of villages Neeli, Kalma, Nallah Ghorian, Kulan, Mani and Larh of block Ghordi mostly produce ginger. Munshi Ram, Bodh Raj and Baldev while talking to Early Times said that they prepared farm field to sow ginger previous but due to non-availability of seeds they were not able to sow. They alleged that the issue was brought to the notice of the officers of the Agriculture department but only assurances were received and not seeds. While talking to Early Times the concerned Agriculture Officer said that due to lockdown ginger seeds were not received by the department, adding that as soon as the ginger seeds are available they will be distributed among the farmers.
