Early Times REport

Poonch, June 24: Notwithstanding the tall claims of present dispensation of reaching out to rural areas and to redress the developmental issues which they kept at priority basis before power. Blame it on the apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities or lack of the co-ordination between them which is taking heavy toll on the lives of the commuters since several years that successive regime fails to make the Rajouri -Thannamandi road traffic worthy.
Sources said that as the area a hilly terrain and the condition if road is not suitable for traffic which invites accidents and the commuters have to ply their vehicle very carefully still the vehicles gets affected.
People of the area are up in arms against the concerned authorities BRO for their utter failure in black-topping the road.
Being the only road link for the commuters who used to ply on this road has a “nightmarish experience “to travel on this road. “Locals charged the successive governments for their indifferent attitude in making this road motorable source said adding, from childrens to old age persons all become victims of this road who have to pass through this road”.
“Since several years people are protesting over the deplorable condition of road local said despite verbal assurances nothing has done so far from previous Government Ministers, bureaucrats, MLAs all taken us for a ride,” he lamented. Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote road is one of the vital roads in Pir Panjal region as 90% of Mughal Road traffic moves on this road and a multifold increase in vehicular movement has been recorded on this road in last five years but single lane road is posing severe hardships for people.
Sources further said that the central government has proposed a two lane road from Rajouri to Surankote which will pass from Thanamandi, Dehra Ki Gali and Bufliyaz to reach Surankote. The existing road will be widened and a two lane road will be constructed on it, which will reduce the traffic congestions and also reduce the journey time. They also informed that the travel-time distance between Surankote to Rajouri via Thanamandi is expected to be reduced by about 25 minutes. Even the pilgrims throng the ziarat of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah from this route and they too face immense hardships but still keeping in view importance of the holy shrine said Sources adding, authorities acting as a mute spectator to this worst condition of road.
