Nagrota Sangarash Samiti stages protest dharna | Delay in establishment of Degree College | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 24: Sangarash Samiti, a newly formed organiZation of the people of Nagrota, today staged sit-in-dharna here in protest against delaying the construction of Government Degree College, approved by the State Administrative Council last year and reported machinations of vested interests to get the site relocated. “The site for the establishment of the degree college stands earmarked and, in fact, the Commissioner/ Secretary Higher Education laid the foundation stone last year as well, in presence of dignitaries and the plaque stands testimony to it”, Block National Conference President Rameshwar Dutt said this after while leading today’s batch of 25 prominent persons of various Panchayats. The batches of protestors will comprise the residents of the each panchayat of the Constituency and the dharna will remain in force till assurance coming from the administration about the establishment of the college at this particular site only. “Those intriguing clandestinely for shifting the site of the college stand exposed, as their ulterior agenda has not only demoralised the young students and their parents but also delayed the construction”, Dutt said, adding that the governance should not run at the whims and fancies of some who keep personal agenda over and above the public interest. Dutt said that the people of Nagrota are united and steadfast in foiling the ulterior designs of the inimical elements and would keep the protests on till the government comes with an assurance. In a message to the Sangarash Samiti, the Provincial National Conference President and former MLA Nagrota Devender Singh expressed solidarity with the cause, saying he has already taken up the issue with all concerned. “There is no question of relocation of the site for the Degree College and our only agenda as of now is to get the construction of the complex started at the earliest to have its time bound completion”, Rana added. He lamented over the attempts of confusion and uncertainty being created, forcing the residents to hold sit-in-dharna in the scorching heat.
