| Another likely split in PDP as Laway hints to form new party | | |

Jammu, July 24: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is likely to face another split because one of the party's two Rajya Sabha members, Nazir Ahmed Laway has hinted to form a new political party to serve the people.
Laway has claimed that large numbers of people were in touch with him to float a new party to solve day today problems of the people. He said that formation of new party was must to address grievances of the people.
Laway is a prominent face of party in South Kashmir. After abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, Mehbooba Mufti had directed both the Rajya Sabha members namely Nazir Ahmed Laway and Fayaz Ahmed Mir to quit the Upper House of the Parliament but both had refused.
Instead of following directions of Mehbooba Mufti, both the Rajya Sabha members were regularly attending proceedings of the House despite the fact that they had created commotion in the Rajya Sabha when Article 370 was abrogated and J&K was bifurcated into two Union Territories (UTs).
All the four Rajya Sabha members namely Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress, Nazir Ahmed Laway and Fayaz Ahmed Mir of PDP and Shamsher Singh of BJP are going to retire in the month of March 2021.
For the last two years PDP has already faced split after split. A group of party MLAs led by Imran Ansari had quitted the party. Another stalwart of the party Hasib Drabu has already resigned from PDP. Muzaffar Hussain Beigh is already sidelined.
And most importantly most of the party’s MLAs have already joined the Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari. |
