| ‘JKUT’ actually signifies ‘Jammu Kashmir Unlimited Tolls’: Harsh | | |

Jammu, July 24: Installation of new toll plazas at Sarore and Lakhanpur and proposal for two others at Akhnoor and Ring road is being justified by several leaders of the ruling party on various grounds. Some saffron leaders justify it on the grounds of providing good roads, while others point out that NHAI guidelines are mandatory. There are however others amongst the general masses +who feel that ever growing number of toll plazas is implicit in the nomenclature of ‘JKUT’ itself which is nothing but an abbreviated form of ‘Jammu Kashmir Unlimited Tolls’. This was stated by Harsh Dev Singh chairman JKNPP and former minister.
While the BJP in opposition vociferously opposed toll plazas terming them as ‘Jazia’ centres, it was shamelessly supporting the installation of new toll plazas in and around Jammu after its ascendance to power. He reminisced that one BJP leader had even indulged in vandalism and dismantled Sarore toll plaza during opposition days making tall claims of thwarting all attempts, if at all made, in future to install toll plazas in Jammu. The pre poll assertions of these BJP leaders however turned into post poll somersaults with the very same leaders facilitating the installation of such tolls even in the vicinity of their residences. The only gifts of BJP in JKUT, said Singh. With four toll plazas already operational in Jammu including Nashri, Ban, Sarore and Lakhanpur and two others in offing, Jammu had rightfully qualified to be described as city of Toll Plazas. And all this notwithstanding the fact that Jammu had given the saffron party 25 MLAs and both the seats of parliament from the region. He said that all those who could not understand what UT signified have now realized that it actually stands for ‘Unlimited Tolls’, with several BJP leaders asking the people to bear with them. |
