Apni Party demands restoration of statehood | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , July 24: Ahead of the completion of one year of the Narendra Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution and scrap Jammu and Kashmir of its statehood by dividing it into Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh, the J&K Apni Party has demanded restoration of J&K's statehood. Addressing a press conference in Jammu on Friday, party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari demanded restoration of high-speed Internet and statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. "It is almost a year now since the August 5 decision last year. We demand that the central government should restore J&K's statehood. We have the right to ask for restoring the status we had," Bukhari said. On August 5 last year, the Narendra Modi-led central government abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated J&K into two Union Territories. Meanwhile, speaking about the difficulties faced by people in J&K, the Apni Party said, "Services have been badly affected due to non-availability of high-speed internet in the Kashmir Valley. The administration is giving illogical reasons for keeping high-speed internet shut. This is violation of rights of the citizens," Altaf Bukhari said. Earlier this week, the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) passed a resolution in Jammu pledging to fight for the restoration of special constitutional and legal status of the erstwhile state. This was the first such resolution since the Centre's August 5 decision last year.
