No resident of Srinagar in terrorist ranks after killing of top LeT commander: Kashmir IGP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 26: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday claimed that no resident from Srinagar district is now in terrorist ranks or an active militant in any group. After the killing of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Ishfaq Rashid Khan in an encounter on Saturday, zonal police chief Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir, said in a tweet that there’s no individual from Srinagar active in any militant group now. There have been a series of encounters that have taken place in the past few months against militants groups in which several militants have been killed. This year alone, 138 militants have been killed in the Valley so far. After the big decision on abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, there were apprehensions about possibilities of increase in militancy in the Valley. Sources said that there was a heightened attempt by the terror groups to push their men from across the Line of Control. Many infiltrations were successful as well. Even though the security grid feels the situation after Article 370 on the civilian front was managed well but checking the level of militancy was a challenge. South Kashmir is emerging as the hotbed, sources said. Most of the militancy related activities and the anti-insurgency operations are taking place in this belt. |
