Kashmir’s mainstream political parties keep lips sealed | Kargil Vijay Diwas: | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 26: Even when the entire country was celebrating Kagril Vijay Diwas with much reverence, Jammu and Kashmir’s regional political parties like NC and PDP have once again maintained a very stoic silence, hinting at what their preferences really are. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26 July every year in honour of the Kargil War's Heroes. This day is celebrated in the Kargil–ctor and the national capital New Delhi, where the Prime Minister of India pays homage to the soldiers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate every year. Functions are also organized all over the country to commemorate the contributions of the armed forces across the country. “On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we remember the courage and determination of our armed forces, who steadfastly protected our nation in 1999. Their valour continues to inspire generations. Will speak more about this during today’s #MannKiBaat, which begins shortly. #CourageInKargil,” tweeted the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. However, the two political parties, NC and the PDP have maintained a very criminal silence not even uttering a single word of praise for the brave hearts of Kargil who have given their precious lives for India. Meanwhile, on social media, people are ruing over such a pathetic style of politics played by Jammu and Kashmir’s regional political parties over the matters pertaining to the national interest. “How could these political parties maintain such a criminal silence on the issue which is of such importance. These political groups should have at least made themselves accountable for what they have done for the country. Soldiers who laid down their lives in Kargil in the year 1999 deserve the greatest applaud,” wrote a netizen on facebook. “These political groups have once again proven beyond doubt that they are chameleons who want to grab power and hoodwink people. There has been a complete pin drop silence in Kashmir’s mainstream camp over Kargil Diwas. Why is not anybody asking these people why they didn't even utter a single word of praise for those brave hearts of Kargil who laid their precious lives in line of their duty,” says another social media user. Pertinently, Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the successful Operation Vijay, is celebrated in India on 26 July. On this date in 1998 India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan. The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days, ended on 26 July and resulted in loss of life on both sides. The war ended with India regaining control of all the previously held territory, hence re-establishing the state existing before the war. |
