Non COVID staff of GMC Jammu housed in faculty Guest house, hotels | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 26: Notwithstanding SOPs like staff deployed for COVID duty, some other medical staff reportedly is staying in GMC’s faculty guest house and private hotels causing huge loss to state exchequer. Highly placed sources informed Early Times that the government hired private hotels to provide accommodations to the medical staff deployed on COVID duty to prevent spread of coronavirus, as some doctors were tested positive in the initial stage when Coronavirus broke out in Jammu. “It is an unwarranted burden on state exchequer, atleast six to seven hotels in various locations of Jammu city have been occupied by the non-COVID medical staff of GMC Jammu. These staff are continuously staying in hotels for the last four months at the cost of public money”, said the senior doctor, adding that making the pandemic an opportunity, some medicos are draining the state exchequer for their own comfort. “As per Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) framed for COVID staff, each member of COVID team have to work for 10 days and then quarantined in hotel for two weeks (14 days)”, sources said, adding that after completion of quarantine the staffer again would go for work at his/her work place. “But unfortunately, the staff of non-COVID areas managed accommodation in hotels, already due to shortage of funds, the medical staff find it difficult to take care of Corona patients, then why public money is being misused”, he said, adding that the government should revise its strategy of providing accommodations to non-COVID staff in private hotels. The medico further said that GMC’s faculty guest house is also being misused. “Some senior doctors, who are also not part of the COVID staff are staying there without paying a single penny. The faculty guest house is meant for faculty only, and most of the time examiners stay there during the exam of Medical college, but using COVID as an opportunity, some doctors along with their personal staff including drivers and peon have stayed there”, he added. Principal GMCH Jammu Dr Naseeb Digra when contacted said that he did not allow any-body other than the COVID-19 staff in hotels or faculty guest house. “I took over as Principal GMCH during COVID pandemic, so I’m not aware of these things, I will check it, accordingly further actions will be taken”, he added. |
