LG pays homage to War Heroes, Army celebrates day at Udhampur | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 26: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Sunday paid homage to Kargil War Heroes while Army celebrated the Kargil Diwas at Udhampur Military Station. On the historic occasion of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, Mr Murmu paid homage to the gallant Indian Army soldiers who fought in the Kargil war. "I salute the unparalleled valour and sacrifice of our soldiers who valiantly fought in the high altitude of Kargil to liberate the Indian territory from the infiltrators", he said. The Lt Governor observed that the supreme sacrifices made by our brave soldiers for safeguarding the territorial integrity of the country will continue to inspire the generations to come. Meanwhile, 21st Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated with traditional fervour at the Udhampur Military Station. The day began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Dhruva War Memorial by Lieutenant General Y K Joshi, Army Commander Northern Command. The wreaths were laid in honour of those soldiers who, true to the traditions of the Indian Army, made the supreme sacrifice for the Nation. Officers and men reminisced the gallant action and heroism of the fallen comrades. The day is a special occasion for the Indian Army being the anniversary of the rarest battle which was fought and won by any country in the most adverse and challenging conditions. Observing Kargil Vijay Diwas was a humble tribute to the fallen soldiers and an acknowledgement of their valour, sacrifice and fortitude.
