Dug up roads for sewerage project create problems in rainy season | | | ASHWANI SHARMA Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, July 29: Even as the prestigious Sewerage project in Udhampur town is being perceived as a much needed make over for the city’s overall development, the execution of work is bringing undue troubles for the locals as indiscriminate digging of several roads is creating problems for them especially when the monsoon is going on. The dug out roads and lanes for laying the sewerage pipes are wreaking havoc particularly when the rainy season is at its peak. “We have to be very careful while walking through the dugout Battal Ballian road as there is sludge everywhere. Passing vehicles splash dirty water on people, spoiling clothes. Even it is not possible to drive vehicles smoothly on Link Road Nagrota which has got spoiled totally after laying sewerage pipes,” said Aqib Akhtar, a local resident of Nagrota. Several people said that they fear a fall due to slippage while walking through the dugout lanes by the authorities accomplishing sewerage project. Presently the roads and lanes like CEO Office Road, Battal Ballian Road and Nagrota Road have been completely dugout. The locals also said that the project will prove good after completion but they urged the DC Udhampur to direct the construction agency executing the project for taking up the work in a phased manner or postpone the construction till the rainy season gets over.
