BJP leadership takes Ram Madhav’s feedback | New Delhi discusses statehood for JK | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 29: The Bharatiya Janta Party led government at the center is actively considering grant of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said the matter was to be discussed by the government top brass in New Delhi in the coming days at a high level meeting, on the cards ahead of the first anniversary of the abrogation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5. Sources said apart from top leaders of the BJP, security experts were also likely to attend the meeting to decide future course of action for grant of the statehood. Sources said before the grant of the statehood, all the mainstream politicians including former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti were likely to be released. Highly placed sources told Early Times that senior BJP leaders held telephonic conversation with the party’s National General Secretary Ram Madhav about the issue of grant of statehood. Sources said the party leadership was taking a feedback from Ram Madhav as to what he felt about the grant of the statehood after his recent visit to Kashmir. Sources said Madhav was of the opinion that situation was getting ripe for the grant of the statehood and that the party should actively look into the matter on priority. In a recent interview, Madhav had hinted at the grant of statehood. "BJP's Jammu & Kashmir unit is of the opinion that statehood should be given back when the time is favourable. We want J&K to be restored to a full state's status. Home Minister Amit Shah himself said while granting UT status that work would be done to get full statehood back very soon. The Assembly is yet to be constituted and delimitation for UT is pending,” Madhav had said. Madhav has been saying that “BJP wants all leaders to act as bridges between administration and public by participating in political activities, but all big leaders of PDP, National Conference, Congress are sitting inside their houses.” Interestingly, Ram Madhav’s interview, senior Congress Ghulam Nabi Azad called on Prime Minister Modi. In Jammu and Kashmir, Apni Party demanded statehood only after Madhav hinted at grant of the same.’’ |
