8/17/2020 12:16:39 AM
ASHWANI SHARMA

EARLY TIMES REPORT

UDHAMPUR, Aug 16: While felicitating the services of Corona warriors on Independence Day, the district administration Udhampur has ignored Municipal Council Udhampur especially Safai Karamcharis while the preference was given to those who had no role in fight against Coronavirus,” alleged Municipality President, Surinder Singh Khalsa Reacting over the neglect, Khalsa said that some employees of DC Office and others are nowhere concerned with fight against the pandemic but still they were honoured.
“The Municipal Safai Karamcharis clean garbage from households to the hospitals, isolation centres, quarantine centres daily risking their lives,” Councilor Jagdish maintained adding, had such people been felicitated, their morale would have been boosted and the thinking of belongingness would have strengthened in them but ironically they as well as Municipal Councilors were totally ignored who were on the frontline to fight against coronavirus. Another Municipal Councilor, Priti Khajuria claimed that even the elected Councilors like her were ignored.
She alleged nepotism and said that injustice shall be fought tooth and nail.
As per sources about 32 people were honoured most of which were government employees.
“We want high level enquiry about this matter especially against those who prepared this list,” said a Councilor.
There are about 136 Safai Karamcharis in the district including permanent and daily wagers and many of them work on a meager salary of Rs 6000-7000.
